August 4, 2025 – Seyfarth Shaw LLP has bolstered its intellectual property offerings with the move of seasoned patent attorney Cory Davis to the firm as a partner. Davis provides significant proficiency and experience handling innovative and cutting-edge artificial intelligence, machine learning and telecommunication technology. He will be based in Seyfarth’s Atlanta office.
Davis brings to Seyfarth two decades of high-level IP law experience, most recently as a partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP. He combines his real-world experience as a former electrical engineer, with Fortune 500 companies such as Motorola and Boeing, with applicable legal knowledge to counsel clients on their technological innovations and the challenges they face.
He has devoted much of his practice securing and protecting intellectual property rights in innovative fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and the metaverse.
“Cory is a strong strategic addition to Seyfarth, and his arrival represents an exciting opportunity to expand our IP capabilities and strengthen client relationships,” said Gina Ferrari, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation Department. “The fact that clients trust him with their most innovative, AI-driven technologies reflects the caliber of his work and the respect he has earned in the market. We’re delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
Davis’ practice places a strong emphasis on patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management, and providing patent infringement and validity studies. He strategically manages patent portfolios to help clients achieve their business goals.
“Cory Davis is an important addition to our expanding intellectual property team with his compelling focus on IP protection and patent prosecution in the AI space,” said Brian Michaelis, co-chair of Seyfarth’s Intellectual Property practice. “He is a leading-edge technology-focused lawyer for leading-edge clients that entrust him with significant innovations, particularly AI-based technologies. He is a welcome addition to our IP group.”
“We continue to grow Atlanta as an IP hub for Seyfarth with Cory further boosting our status,” said Steven Kennedy, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Atlanta office. “Cory is aligned with our strategic goals in Atlanta, strengthened by the personal ties he already enjoys with our Atlanta team. The relationship is further enhanced by Cory’s involvement in community organizations that reflect our values.”
The move of Davis extends the growth of Seyfarth in Atlanta. Matthew Cohen recently joined the firm as a partner there focusing on institutional investing. A group of nearly 20 lawyers, including nine partners, covering Real Estate, Corporate, and Employee Benefits moved to Seyfarth’s Atlanta office in late June from Morris Manning & Martin.
Davis has been recognized by The Legal 500, Georgia Trend magazine’s Legal Elite, Intellectual Property Law, the National Black Lawyers (Top 100), and Law360, where he has been a member of the Intellectual Property Editorial Advisory Board.
“Coming to Seyfarth is a great opportunity, given the firm’s highly-regarded IP practice and its high-profile technology clients,” said Davis. “The firm presents a great platform for me to grow my practice while helping Seyfarth expand IP further in Atlanta. I look forward to collaborating with this outstanding team of lawyers across the firm.”
Davis received his JD from the University of Georgia School of Law, and his BS in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Georgia, and before the USPTO.
He is a member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the American Bar Association (Intellectual Property Section), the State Bar of Georgia (Intellectual Property Section), and the Atlanta Intellectual Property Inn of Court.
